Company initiative to optimize service quality of record center operations propels it up the ranks of technology innovators

MONARCH BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 15, 2009-- Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE: IRM), the global leader in information protection and storage services, today announced that it ranked No. 55 on the 2009 InformationWeek 500, a listing of the nation's most innovative users of information technology. The ranking was revealed last night at a gala awards ceremony at the InformationWeek 500 Conference.

“We are excited to be ranked in the InformationWeek 500 for the seventh consecutive year, and it is especially gratifying to have placed so high on this year’s prestigious list,” said William Brown , chief information officer at Iron Mountain. “We are committed to providing our customers with the most advanced solutions for information protection and storage. This means taking a hard look at our own internal processes for opportunities to innovate and improve. Our Records Center Optimization Program is a prime example. It has improved our technology, our infrastructure and, ultimately, our service to customers.”

Iron Mountain’s newly-launched Record Center Optimization Program uses labor and performance data to optimize the service quality of its record center operations. Access to the operational data comes via a new suite of self-service reports developed by Iron Mountain utilizing its business intelligence system. To provide supervisors with the right insights, the system extracts key information from several sources including the company’s records inventory and transaction system, its employee time and attendance system, as well as a database of facility-specific engineered metrics for completing activities within a records center like shelving a new box. The technology then synthesizes the data into a set of reports and forecasts, allowing managers to assign employees where they’re needed most and to make customer deliveries more quickly and accurately.

“For over 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston . “Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue, and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year’s winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation.”

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, now in its 21st year, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. Top winners have included: Conway, National Semiconductor, Kimberly-Clark, Hilton Hotels and Unum. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
