Media Alert: The Future Challenge of Information Management

Iron Mountain to host free webcast on the impact social media could have on how companies manage their information

BOSTON, Jan 06, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE: IRM), the information management company, will host on Jan. 13 a free webcast on the future of records and information management (RIM), featuring a video presentation by bestselling author and business futurist Geoffrey Moore and a live question and answer session hosted by Iron Mountain Executive Chairman Richard Reese.

Moore's presentation, originally given at the ARMA 2010 conference on Nov. 8, contends that an information management revolution is underway for enterprises, as social media and consumer technology applications like instant messaging and video conferencing enter the workplace. Through these new channels, what Moore calls "systems of engagement," information moves in and out of organizations via multiple access points. The dynamic nature of how this data moves throughout an organization is vastly different than the static databases and other "systems of record" that have predictable and easily managed patterns of access and movement. This creates new challenges for records and information managers who must apply rules and governance to this data.

In this webcast, moderated by Iron Mountain's Reese, Moore will discuss how this information management revolution is transforming records management into a strategic business concern and changing the job responsibilities for records managers, general counsels and IT leaders.

WHAT:

Attendees will learn:
-- The effect of consumerism and social media on RIM;
-- How systems of record and systems of engagement are converging;
-- The organizational risks posed by email, Twitter, video conferencing and other social technologies;
-- Why records management is becoming a more strategic function in organizations.
