Webinar: Busting Information Silos in Medical Imaging

June 9, 2011

BOSTON, Jun 09, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE: IRM), the information management company, will participate in a June 14 webinar on how hospital records managers can build a business case for investing in enhanced medical image archiving.

In today's patient-care settings, healthcare providers view and store medical-image data like x-rays, CT scans, and MRIs through Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS). Hospitals typically rely on multiple PACS from various vendors to manage different types of images, and these PACS do not easily integrate with each other, trapping patient data within silos. These silos limit physicians' ability to share data about the same patient and complicate delivering on the promise of a holistic electronic medical record. Solving this problem requires hospital IT leaders to connect disparate PACS and make available non PACS-based images as well - an often costly and complex process.

The webinar, hosted by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), will overview this issue and give attendees strategies for solving it, from implementing cloud storage and a vendor neutral archive (VNA) to improving processes through policy implementation and enforcement. The session will feature Michael Gray, principal of healthcare technology advisory firm Gray Consulting; and Ken Rubin, senior vice president and general manager of Healthcare for Iron Mountain.

WHAT:
