Industry and Academic Experts Partner to Help Businesses and Students
Prepare for the Future of Information Management
BOSTON & AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Today, Iron
Mountain® Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the storage and information
management company, and the University
of Texas School of Information, a premier research and education
institution for information professionals, announced a partnership to
advance the study and practice of information management and governance.
To launch the initiative, Iron Mountain will cohost “A Two-Gun Texas
Roundup on Big Data Analytics,” an exclusive event at the University of
Texas on Feb. 24 at the Austin Campus’ AT&T Conference Center.
As the volume of data and information continues to grow, organizations
are racing to adapt their strategies and solutions to keep up and derive
powerful and actionable insights from that information. To do so,
information management professionals must stay abreast of advances in
the field so they can be ready for emerging changes in how information
is being consumed, accessed and managed. By partnering on this
initiative, Iron Mountain and the University of Texas are providing
these professionals, for the first time, a resource for strategies,
technologies and job skills needed to ensure that they stay ahead of the
curve and are able to meet today’s and tomorrow’s information management
challenges. Iron Mountain will support the partnership by participating
in and collaborating on thought-leadership events, contributing to the
University’s curriculum and engaging with alumni, professors and
students.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with one of the leading academic
centers for information management in the world, helping to shape the
direction of our industry for current and future information managers,”
said Sue Trombley, managing director of Thought Leadership at Iron
Mountain and University of Texas at Austin School of Information class
of 2003. “Our customers have long relied on us to collaborate with them
to solve some of information management’s biggest challenges. In the
process of doing that, we’ve developed a great deal of expertise and
resources that help advance the practice of information management and
information governance. With the formal iSchool relationship, we can
combine those years of experience with the hub of information management
education to support the ability of information management professionals
to actively advise their employers and shape their own future.”
The partnership kicks off with a half-day event on Feb. 24 called “A
Two-Gun Texas Roundup on Big Data Analytics”, focused on two of the
industry’s hottest topics: big data analytics and data visualization.
The event includes two panel discussions moderated by Sue Trombley and
featuring speakers from the iSchool, Iron Mountain, Chevron, Enlyton,
Innography Tasktop and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear real-world use cases and
examples of successful big data analytics, explore the importance of an
organization’s data “readiness” to work with analytics and
visualization, and learn about best practices to extract data and
visualize it in a way that empowers decision-makers to take action and
drive business value.
“The management of information is now of strategic importance to all
organizations,” said Andrew Dillon, Dean of the University of Texas
School of Information. “As technology has evolved, new challenges and
practices have emerged which require a deep understanding of human
engagement with information resources to tackle appropriately. A
partnership between the iSchool and Iron Mountain offers a unique
opportunity to bridge the worlds of scholarship and practice in
information management and to enhance the professional preparation of
future information managers.”
