Kessinger/Hunter selected as the development partner for the first
phase of Iron Mountain’s 60 Megawatt Campus in Manassas
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Iron
Mountain Incorporated® (NYSE:IRM), the global
leader in storage and information management services, today announced
that construction has begun at its 83-acre data center campus in
Manassas, Virginia. Kessinger/Hunter & Company has been selected as the
development partner for the first 150,000 square-foot data center, which
will be built to Uptime Tier III construction standards for critical
infrastructure design and availability.
"We are excited to have construction underway in Northern Virginia on
what we believe will be one of the market’s most compelling data center
offerings," said Mark Kidd, senior vice president and general manager of
Iron Mountain Data Centers. "Kessinger/Hunter is a long-standing partner
of ours, and understands the premium we place on security and
reliability in our data centers. When completed, our Manassas campus
will deliver superior physical security, lower power costs and a reduced
tax structure compared to locations nationally, without sacrificing
performance, meeting our customers’ high standards.”
“We’re seeing an increase in the customer need for highly secure data
centers with flexible design for their precise requirements,” Kidd
continued. “We continue to manage capacity utilization to stay ahead of
this need as the portfolio grows and have benefited from pre-leasing
activity in existing markets.”
Iron Mountain’s Northern Virginia data center campus will have 60
megawatts of capacity spread across at least four individual colocation
facilities. The first building, expected to open in summer 2017, will
offer 10.5 megawatts of critical power and a flexible design that can
meet the exacting requirements of cloud services providers, Federal
Government Agencies, systems integrators, financial services firms and
healthcare companies. The purpose-built data center will also be sited
according to the property setback and elevation standards – distances
from property lines and out of floodplains – that meet intelligence and
law enforcement requirements for physical security.
Additionally, the data center campus itself is located in a “fiber-rich”
area that will offer customers cost-effective, high performance
connectivity to the Ashburn (VA) network ecosystem. As with all the
company’s data centers, Iron Mountain will complete FISMA High, ISO
27001, PCI DSS Level 1, HIPAA, and SOC 2 Type II compliance audits and
certifications. The campus will also comply with Federal technology and
environmental regulations, such as the Data Center Consolidation
Initiative (DCOI) and Executive Order (EO) 13693, enabling Federal
Agencies and integrators to comply by stated deadlines for efficient,
sustainable data centers.
The development team of Chuck Hunter, John DeHardt, and Kevin Curtin
will oversee the building development and land infrastructure
improvements and have engaged the following Kansas City-based companies
in conjunction with the project: JE Dunn Construction Group and Burns &
McDonnell Engineering Company. “Iron Mountain’s choice of
Kessinger/Hunter as the developer of such a large, complex and critical
project is a testament to our partnership and an important achievement
in our 137-year history. It could not have been achieved without the
dedication, hard work, and knowledge of our wonderful associates,”
Kessinger/Hunter Chairman, Chuck Hunter said.
